Phil & Jo, a young married couple, had bought a business and dreamed of starting a family. But because the clinic relied so heavily on both of them being there all day, every day including weekends, starting a family seemed impossible.

Phil now work less than half the hours he was before and Jo no longer needs to work at all, although she chooses to so to work just 20% of the hours she was before.

Phil & Jo's Success Story

Phil and Jo, a young married couple, thought running their own business would give them their dream lifestyle; unfortunately, the reality was very different.

Long hours and the constant pressures of running the business made their dream of starting a family almost impossible.

Now they enjoy having a business that gives them both the income and the freedom to enjoy being parents.


Husband and wife, business partners to an expanding business and now working the hours that suit us and our growing family, but it wasn’t always this way!  

As a young married couple, we had finally started our very own business.  Business was good and we were great at delivering high quality healthcare.  However, this relied heavily on both of us being there all day, every day including weekends. 

We were overworked, stressed and had no time for each other let alone the time to start a family.  We were ambitious but often felt out of control.  It became normal to find ourselves working long into the night and sometime early hours to get everything done for the business. 

Something had to change! 

I first met John at a local solicitor’s event in which he spoke on teamwork and goal setting.  This guy spoke my language, he was describing how I was feeling, and he was answering the questions that had been rattling around in my head for ages!

My wife and I had our first coaching session with John, I use the term coaching lightly as we inadvertently forced John into a marriage counselors’ role, I think we will all remember that session for a very long time! 

Over the coming months John took us outside our comfort zone something that was very scary at first especially for two young, analytical scientists with little experience or confidence in running a business. 

Very quickly John helped us realise that what we really wanted and needed from our business was time! 

Time together, time for a family, time to live the way we wanted to. 

Of course, the business would need to provide the finances to do this, but it wasn’t helicopters and yachts on our wish list, it was the gift of time.  Not that there is anything wrong with helicopters and yachts!

Over the following year John helped us develop and refine the foundation skills we needed to grow our business turnover by 300% in just 2 years with profits more than double than before starting this journey, something we had originally only dreamed of. 

5 years on and we have smashed our 10-year goals at work and at home!

I now work less than half the hours I was before and my wife no longer needs to work at all, although she chooses to so to keep her skills up and to take care of her beloved patients.  She is now working just 20% of the hours she was before. 

e have a growing family with two small children and the time to visit relatives who live far away.  We enjoy travel, spending time as a family and doing the job we were trained to do, rather than the work  we had to do. 

At work our team has more than doubled in size and all those jobs we spent hours doing at night are now handled by staff or outsourced to people that are better, faster and more experienced with those tasks.  This allows us time to focus fully on our patients and providing them with the best possible care. 

Even to this day we still regularly use the skills John taught us on day one and have the confidence to develop this skill in an ever-changing business landscape.
